According to data from the WHO, the number of people over 60 years old worldwide increases every year and it is expected that this figure will double by 2050.
Therefore, it is important to develop strategies that can help the population to have an active and healthy aging and thus prevent or delay future illnesses.
Holistic treatments are considered the best strategy to reduce polypharmacy and are non-invasive treatments, among them is balneotherapy which is a non-pharmacological treatment that can treat chronic diseases.
Cofrentes Spa Study: Fried Frailty Phenotype
The Cofrentes Spa is an organization that aims to contribute to active and healthy aging. Every year it receives more than 10,000 people who attend a 10-day program in which balneotherapy is combined with activities and workshops such as regenerative medicine and fall prevention, etc.
Therefore, a pilot cross-sectional study has been carried out that consists of a longevity and balneotherapy treatment using an App called "Rosita". This study aims to determine the health profiles of people over 60 who present geriatric syndromes that affect their quality of life.
43 participants took part in the study, 30 of whom were women (22 of whom were over 70 years old). The points of analysis were: Quality of life, Frailty profiles, Daily activities, Nutritional status, Cognitive status, and risks of depression. For the study, a Fried Frailty Phenotype questionnaire was used.
After conducting the study and analyzing the data, it has been found that more than half of the people who go to the spa have functional deficits and that women tend to live longer than men but also have a lower quality of life.
On the other hand, it has been observed that generally people over 60 do not eat correctly and many of them do not engage in physical activities, which increases levels of frailty. To have a healthy aging, it is important not to neglect
